Nothing to me says winter more than drinking a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold evening whilst sat in a cosy lounge watching the telly. This recipe brings just that winter magic to a healthier breakfast alternative. It literally tastes just like hot chocolate, but actually has some nutritional benefits to keep you going throughout the day. I can literally whip this up in the minutes in 5 minutes or less. So if you feel yourself getting that winter feeling give this quick and simple recipe a go.
For the Smoothie:
- 1 cup (240ml) almond milk.
- ½ cup (100g) 0% Fat Greek Yogurt.
- ½ cup (70g) oats.
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup.
- 1tsp vanilla extract.
- 2 tbsp cacao or cocoa powder.
- 1 tbsp Dark chocolate or cacao chips.
- 2 or 3 pineapple leaves for decoration.
For the Toppings:
- Granola.
- Almond Butter.
- Raspberries or Strawberries.
- Cacao chips.
- Poppy Seeds.
- Coconut.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step One:
In a blender or food processor combine the almond milk, yogurt, oats, honey, vanilla extract, cacao and dark chocolate chips. Blend the ingredients until smooth, adding more milk if too thick or more oats if too thin until you reach your desired consistency.
Step Two:
Pour mixture into bowl and top with your choice of toppings. In this post I used a combinations of granola, almond butter, chocolate chips, coconut, poppy seeds and raspberries. I also like to put this mixture in the freezer and eating it ice cold. It's like eating a healthier breakfast ice cream.
