Over the past few weeks I’ve really been liking jalapeños. I mean, they’ve always been one of my favourite pizza toppings. However, they recently seem to have been appearing a lot more in my day-to-day cooking. This summer I have been experimenting with different drinks and smoothies to keep me cool throughout the hotter months and thought it would be interesting to try adding a little spice to one of my favourite summer classics. Combining the a traditional lemonade recipe with my love for jalapeños...and it actually turned out pretty good. It’s refreshing yet has a bit of a kick to it and is something that I’ll definitely be drinking for the rest of the year. Even though summer is now coming to a close!
INGREDIENTS
- 10 lemons.
- 1/4 cup sugar.
- 6 cups water.
- Handful of mint.
- 6 jalapeños.
- Cubed ice.
INSTRUCTIONS
Step One:
Slice up the jalapeños and place them into a small saucepan including the seeds. Add 3 cups of water as well as the sugar and warm on a low heat . This creates the jalapeños sugar syrup we need to make the lemonade. Add more sugar if you want to make it sweeter. Once dissolved remove the jalapeños and leave to cool.
Step Two:
In a pitcher, juice 10 lemons and add the remaining 3 cups of water and mint to create the lemonade. Muddle the lemon and mint in the bottom of the jug to bring out the flavour.
