At some point in life we all make a bucket list. Whether it's more of a mental note or physically on a piece of paper, we all have a list of goals, dreams and things we want to achieve in life. Some are small and can be achieved with ease, others are a little bigger and may not be completed until some point in the distant future. They can be something to further your career, something you’ve always wanted to experience or something a little more personal. Regardless of what it is they are all goals that we want to make happen, but realistically how often do we take the time to reflect on these and tick some of them off?
I seem to forever be writing lists, making notes or adding dates to my diary throughout both my working day and personal life. I’ve always been quite a neat and organised person and for me there’s no better feeling than when I get to tick off something I had to get done on my 'to do' list. It gives me something visually to aim for and makes achieving a goal that much better...and I guess the same mentality applies when writing a bucket list.
The idea of a bucket list may seem a bit silly to some people. How can you plan your whole life on one piece of paper? But realistically it’s no different from planning your weekly groceries or organising your appointments and social life on a calendar. It’s just looking at the bigger picture. I’ve recently found myself reflecting on the things that I would like to achieve in the coming years and have been adding these to one of my many notebooks and started to form what you might call a bucket list. Now there’s no way I could share all of these things with you in one post as there are far too many. But I thought I’d pick a select few that I’ve recently added, hopefully motivating you to finally start ticking off some life ambitions. Rather than leaving your forgotten bucket lists and goals somewhere else to collect dust.
1.
I want to take more pictures. Taking photos has always been an interest of mine and is one of the many reasons why I started this blog in the first place. Photography has started to become a bit more serious than just a simple hobby and I have recently completed my first paid job as a photographer. To congratulate myself and take my love for snapping further, I purchased a new camera and would love to spend time getting to grips with it. Taking photos for not just my blog but to preserve memories. You can check out some of my photography on my Instagram @jack_granville.
2.
I want to start taking my fitness more seriously. Since the beginning of the year I’ve been eating more healthily and going for the occasional run, but I know I would feel so much better in myself if I did some serious exercise. I really want to invest some time into going to the gym and put the work in.
3.
Since moving out of my parents house and getting my own place I have tried so many different types of food that I’ve never had before. I now love sushi, something I never thought I’d say, and I could eat Mexican food for days. I want to try to always keep an open mind when it comes to food and continue to broaden my horizons.
4.
Music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been to a few concerts and festivals and loved not just the music but the whole atmosphere. I really want to go to more live events and hear the music that I love in a different setting than the speaker in my room.
5.
I’ve played guitar from a young age but it’s something that I kind of lost as I grew up. I really want to make the time to pick up this skill again and maybe even get a little better.
6.
I’d like to learn a new language. The languages I was taught at school I never really kept up as they didn’t really appeal to me. I’d love to learn something like Spanish or Italian, they’re not only nice sounding languages, but somewhere I really want to visit.
7.
I really want to see more of the world. As I’ve grown I’ve learnt that living in a city environment seems to suit me best and one city I’ve always wanted to visit is New York. Now that I have a friend living there I also have another reason to visit.
8.
I have a Netflix watch list that is kind of getting out of hand. I need to start ticking off some of the shows and films that have been congregating there and make it a little smaller. Although with all the great new shows being added this might not happen any time soon. I seriously can not stop watching the new series of House of Cards.
9.
Going out for coffee or visiting different coffee shops is one of my favourite past times and London is full of them. I think one of the reasons I like a good cafĂ© so much is because the coffees look so good with all the latte art. I like to think of myself as a bit of a barista at home, but haven’t quite mastered latte art yet. I really want to though. I want impress people when they come round my house with a nice picture in their coffee...but then again would they even care.
10.
Sometimes work can make having a social life quite difficult as free time is something hard to come by. I really want to make the effort to go out more and meet new people. I’m a sociable person, and exploring the many bars that London has to offer with a large group of friends is one of my favourite things to do with my down time.
